Car Accidents Northern Territory
Car accidents in the Northern Territory are much different to any other state or territory in Australia. In the Northern Territory the legislation is a ‘No Fault’ scheme, meaning there does not have to be any negligence, or person at fault to claim compensation for an injury. Generally in the Northern Territory you may be entitled to particular benefits depending on your circumstances at the time of the accident.
When you have been injured in car accident the first thing to do is report the accident to the police. Car accidents must be reported within 28 days - this is very important and may affect your claim for compensation.
Gather as much information from the accident scene as you can, such as the drivers contact details and details of their insurer, the police report and any witness statements. Next thing to do is seek medical attention. Once you have done this seek legal advice from a car accident lawyer (or personal injury lawyer) who will be able to advise you of your entitlements.
If you were working, or travelling to or from work you may also be entitled to Workers Compensation and will need to report the accident to your employer.
